Bajan Dane Mackie Highest Ranking Under 16 Boys Junior Surfer at ISA World Junior Championships
Dane Mackie is the highest ranked under 16 boys in the Junior World Championships recently held at Playa Veno in Panama, April 14-22, 2012.
The ISA World Juniors brings together the best Under 18 surfers from around the world to compete for individual and team glory. Three Hundred and one (301) surfers competed in three divisions – Boys Under 18, Boys Under 16 and Girls Under 18 – over the course of eight days of competition at the beach break, Playa Veno, located on the Pacific Ocean side of the country.
The next generation of surfers put their talent on display at the most important junior competition in the World!! Barbados finished an outstanding 16th in the World out of 31 Nations with a total score of 1,915 points ahead of Panama, Ecuador, Puerto Rico to name a few. Barbadian, top junior surfer, Dane Mackie finished 33rd in the World Rankings in the Under16 Division out of a field of 64 of the best surfers in the world.
In the Under 16 Division Dane placed 1st in Round One and advanced easily to Round Two of the Main Round where he was knocked into Repercharge Round Two. Dane would advance through Round Two and Round Three placing 2nd in both heats, and was knocked out in Repercharge round 4 placing third.
Dane also competed in the Under 18 and due to a conflict of heats with the Under 16 Division, missed his first heat of the Main Round which sent him straight to the repercharge round one. Dane won his 1st heat and placed 2nd in repercharge round two and was eliminated in round three. Dane represented his country with pride and gained 320 points, being the most points for team Barbados.
