Baje Drift – Barbados Motorsports Clothing
SOL Rally Barbados 2011 is right around the corner and clothing brand Baje Drift Motorsports is ready to outfit everyone for the event. As the exclusive motorsports tee-shirt brand in Barbados, Baje Drift releases new designs for rally fans who will be cheering on the competitors in the Caribbean’s biggest motorsports international.
Adrenaline Sun spoke to Baje Drift CEO, Rasheed Sabir about his love for rally and his plan for Sol Rally Barbados 2011 on June 4 and 5.
Have you ever participated in any motorsports events or are you just a fan?
I am currently just a fan. I hope to get into some kind of motor sport in the future.
What’s your favorite event?
Favourite event would definitely be Rally, it satisfies my sideways fetish. LOL
How long has motorsports been your passion?
I have enjoyed going to car racing events for about 10 years now. My older brother took me to my first event, and I never looked back.
What inspired you to start your own clothing brand?
My love for rally is my inspiration.
Why did you decide to specialize in motorsports clothing?
I wanted to wear clothes that reflected my passion there are none in the market, so I decided to make my own.
Why the name Baje Drift?
BajeDrift …. The name identifies its Barbadian roots without relying too much on the Barbados “brand”. Drift appeals to those of us who like to see cars sideways. There’s a certain level of entertainment, for the experienced and new rally fan alike, when the rear end of a car “steps out”. I am just trying to capture that excitement and enthusiasm.
How long has BajeDrift been in operation?
Well BajeDrift has been in operation now for about 4 years, mainly as a hobby of mine.
What has the response been like?
The response has been good, it could be better, but I am grateful for the response I have gotten thus far. We still really aren’t a household name as yet, but I know how to change that. I am just unable to right now.
In terms of clothing… what does Baje Drift offer? (men’s/women’s)
BajeDrift offers Men’s and Women’s tees. We also did some special orders for a couple kids 
.
How do you come up with your design concepts
There is no real formula for coming up with my designs, if there were I’d patent it lol. Seriously, I just enjoy the sport, I try to draw on elements from it and design around that basic concept. For example, our Lot Circles design was sparked while I was sitting on the bus, I drove past a parking lot which had circles in it from someone doing donuts, maybe the night before .
How can potential customers see what you have to offer and place orders?
Currently potential customers can find me on Facebook. I haven’t yet launched a website.
Do you have any plans to expand your product line? (accessories, hats, etc)
No not in the near future. The clothing business is not a very profitable one, so without major capital injection, we will continue to produce fashionable tees for motor sport lovers.
Have you faced any challenges since getting into the fashion industry?
The subjective nature of fashion is always a major challenge for me. Designs are simply hit or miss. I have found that I could put my heart and soul into a design, and then have little public uptake. While, conversely, a design that did not take as much effort would perform tremendously.
What can we expect from BajeDrift for the upcoming Sol Rally Barbados 2011?
We currently have a design out called “Return of the 80′s”. I am hoping to have those retailing at Rally HQ.
Where do you see Baje Drift in the future?
My vision for BajeDrift Motorsport is for it to be positioned as a brand for rally fans. Much like Quiksilver is to surfers.
