Barbados Motoring Club Speed Event: Return of The Sheriff
If last weekend’s Motoring Club Barbados Speed Event in Malvern was any indication of what’s to come for Rally Barbados then fans can definitely expect to see Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete laying down the law.
Although “The Sheriff” was in top form, it was Sammy Cumberbatch who sent tongues wagging when he shot to the top of the two wheel drive and beat out some of the four wheel drives.
The speed event which included one practice run and three officials was held in the Parish of St. John along the popular Malvern stage and it was the return of ‘The Sheriff’ to action since the end of the 2010 season.
He never trailed and was confident all the way winning on the day on his beast of a car, the S12B Subaru Impreza WRC setting the fastest time (1:36.8) in the third and final run of the day.
The other two World Rally Cars battled it out for second and it was Roger Hill (1:38.7) in the Toyota Corolla that nipped Sean Gill (1:38.8) in the Suzuki SX4 for the second place.
Sammy (1:44.1) in his first event of the year in his BMW E30, shot his way through the course to beat out the Group N cars in an impressive feat.
Hot on his heels was Josh Read (1:44.5) in the snarling Toyota Starlet who was also competing in his first event of the year along with Andrew Jones, Paul Innis and Brett Clarke.
Clarke debuted an awesome looking C2 Citreon and it showed glimpses of what it has to offer later when he gets more seat time.
Group Winners on the day were Roger Skeete (M8-WRC), Avinash Chatrani (M8A), Mark Hamilton (P4), Sammy Cumberbatch (S11), Josh Read (S9), Jamal Brathwaite (M6).
