Bruce Mackie is the Caribbean Champion
Not wanting to be out-surfed by his younger brother Dane, Monster sponsored, Bruce Mackie claimed the title of the Western Atlantic Professional Series “Caribbean Champion” of the Open Pro Men and under 21 Pro junior Divisions for 2012!!
The third leg of the WAPS Caribbean Championships 2012, the Makka Pro, was recently held at Yallahs in Jamaica on the 21st & 22nd July 2012. At the left point break, regular footer Bruce surfed on his back side in 2-4 foot conditions. This did not hamper his performance with his progressive surfing throwing aerial assaults, while slashing and hacking his way through the progressing heats in both divisions of the Open Men’s Pro and Junior Pro.
Bruce emerged 4th in the Open Mens Pro Division with Jessie Hielman (15.77) 1st, Nils Schweizer 2nd (14.44) and Jensen Callaway 3rd (14.14).
The series comprised of the Barbados Leg at Soup Bowl, the second leg was held in Trinidad and the third and final leg in Jamaica.
Bruce is currently ranked 3rd overall in the Western Atlantic Surf Series Men’s Pro Tour for 2012, after competing in the November International Pro – Barbados, Kona Pro – New Smyrna, Florida, Trinidad International Pro and the Makka Pro – Jamaica.
Bruce also won the coveted Caribbean Under 21 Champion in 2011 when the event was held at Soup Bowl in Barbados.
Congrats Bruce Mackie!
