Capturing the Checkered Flag with Race 1 TV
Roaring engines, fast cars and adrenaline pumping motorsports; it’s all on the Caribbean’s number #1 motorsports show, Race 1 TV.
Over the years, Race 1 TV has evolved to include every motorsports event in the Caribbean. From circuit racing to rally to mud dogs, you can guarantee that Race 1 TV will be there. We had a chance to talk to the show’s producer Jimmy Gittens about his drive to bring Race 1 TV to the region.
For those who don’t know, what is Race1 TV?
Race1 is an exciting 30 minute television program covering all aspects of motorsport in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. We started in February 2008.
What are the most memorable moments that you’ve shot for Race 1 TV?
The most memorable moments are shooting throughout the Caribbean, the regional motorsport family, the competitive nature of the drivers combined with the cooperation between all of them outside the racing cars, the cultures and experiencing the love and respect Caribbean people have for the race1 show.
You shoot events from circuit racing to Rally to Mud Dogs but which one is your favorite?
I don’t have a favorite event. All of them give me the same level of excitement.

If you were a rally driver, what would you drive?
If I were a rally driver, I would love to drive a well prepared Toyota Starlet… but my dream is to take a WRC car around the Bushy Park Racing Circuit.
Since you’re not a rally driver, who is your favorite driver?
I don’t have a favorite driver, i choose my driver on the day.
Do you have a dream car?
Definitely a Range Rover.
Recording Race 1 TV sometimes takes you overseas, where is your favorite place to travel?
I love to work in Jamaica.
What is your favorite rally stage and why?
My favorite rally stages are Canefield St. Thomas for tarmac and Yorkshire Christ Church for gravel, because I have some wicked camera positions on those stages that would make you move away from the TV screen when Race1 is on.
Where would you like to see Race 1 in 5 years?
I would like to see Race one in five years, as huge as the WRC TV, taking over the region visually in relation to motorsport.
