Double Victory for Chelsea Tuach in Costa Rica
Chelsea Tuach, Barbados’ reigning Open Women and Under 18 Girls’ National Surf Champion and the 11th ranked
female junior in the world took out 11 time National Costa Rican Surf Champion, Lisbeth Vindas, Danielle Cimiero from Florida, the contest’s number 1 seed, Eve Johnson, from Great Britain, and Costa Rica’s Number 2 female surfer Nataly Bernold in the Open Women’s Division of the Olympus Costa Rican Surf Contest held in Jaco, Costa Rica last week-end. Tuach made her intentions known from the very first heat when she posted a 16.5 heat total in Round One with explosive off-the lips and power carves, the highest heat total of the day. She continued to win every heat on her way to the final, consistently posting waves scores in the good to excellent range.
Tuach was also crowned the Under 18 Girls’ champion after she defeated the the top two Under 18 Costa Rican female surfers, Leilani McGonagle and Emily Gussoni in another exciting final which delighted the large crowd on hand.
“The girls were all surfing strong so it feels great to have come out on top in both Divisions”, Tuach said shortly after her two wins. ” I want to thank my coach, Jim Hogan, who has been working with me all week, and Red Bull, who made this trip to Costa Rica possible.”
Chelsea’s double victory came at the end of a week-long intense surf camp with world class surf coach, Jim Hogan, himself a former top professional surfer from the US and US Team coach. This is just another step in Chelsea’s quest to realize her dream of becoming a professional surfer as she prepares to compete in a series of contests along the West and East coast of the United Sates over the next few months.
