The Irie-est Grom Search Skate Event 2012
It was all new pollution at F-Spot (Barbados) as the best, up-and-coming skaters came out to take part in the Irie Grom Search Event 2012 yesterday (Sunday, April 15).
The weather was excellent and the competition was fierce with members from Bajan skate teams; Irie One, Movement and Cartel cheering on every contestant. Split up into 2 groups U-14 and U-16, the kids gave it their all. This was especially seen in the U-14, where some of the competitors haven’t been skating for a year as yet. The U-14 was easily won by Brandon Grannum for his consistency and attempts to do bigger tricks.
In a keenly contested U-16 division, Alexander “Panda” Brown was too smooth by shredding the entire park with his arsenal of combinations, landing trick after trick to the delight of fans. Even though Panda was unable to finish his final heat due to a very minor injury, he had already done enough to lock in first place.
With the Grom Search officially over, don’t think that the day’s events were through because in true Irie One style, an impromptu competition was started for the skater-spectators to attack the fun box with their biggest tricks to win a bottle of Mountain Dew for each trick landed. Event organizer, Mr. Irieness himself, Paul Wilson made sure that everything ran smoothly and on time. The only thing left for him to do afterwards was fire up the grill for an Irie BBQ.
