Join the Tobago Carnival Regatta 2012!!!
The Tobago Carnival Regatta is in its 4th year on Pigeon Point Heritage Park, Tobago. It runs from Thursday 23rd through Friday 24th from 9am till 4.30 pm.
Saturday Feb 25th is the Lay Day when the competitors can go to Lambeau Beach for a fun day of relaxation, kiting or partying- Sunday Feb 26th is back on Pigeon Point for the FINALS
- Sunday night from 7pm is the Prize giving at the Shade Pub
The Tobago Carnival Regatta has 4 segments
The Optimists Sailors who range from 7-15 – These kids come from as far as Vesigny , Point Fortin, San Fernando, Carenage, Tobago and the UK. they will be sailing from South Beach ( near the Jetty) out to Storebay
The Bum Boat Sailors - these are locally made Sail boats that range from 13 – 28 ft. They compete each year in Grenada, St Vincent , Carricou and the Grenadines. This is a traditional boat in the smaller islands of the Caribbean but has not been in Trinidad for decades.
The Wind Surfers – These compete each morning during the regatta on North Beach . Sailors from all over the region Barbados, Bonaire, Aruba, Jamaica, Europe, US and Canada all take part.
Kite Boarding – This is the fastest going wind assisted sport in the world. The Caribbean has 5 of the top 10 kite boarders in the world hailing from Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua and Bonaire which hosts the large regatta of its kind in the world. Tobago , Pigeon Point is developing into a mecca of wind Surfing and kite boarding attracting boarders from the EU, UK , USA and Canada.
The Tobago Carnival Regatta is the most radical regatta in the region and has been tagged “A Festival of Wind!”
