Josh Burke surfs for the podium in U-21 CARIB PILSNER Pro Junior
The boy wonder from Barbados, Josh Burke once again excited surfing fans as he shredded his way to 2nd place in the U-21 WASS/CARIB PILSNER Pro Junior held in the beautiful region of “Beach Break” Toco in North Trinidad. Waves were 3-4ft hollow and quick were ideal for the agile and innovative Burke to burst his trade mark aerial antics.
The Billabong, X-trak, Von zipper, Nixon and Burkie Board sponsored surfer started out the 30min final with two good opening rides posting a 5.17 and a 5.83 to lead the final for the next 20mins,with Giorgio Gomez (USA) currently in 2nd, Rafael Perriera (Ven) in 3rd and Akeem Philips(Jam) in 4th all needing a 6 pt plus ride for a win in the difficult conditions.
Burke improved his lead with 9 mins to go with a wave that involved a powerful off the top and verticle lip bash posting a 6.13, leaving the field with a 7.pt plus ride for a win, with 4 mins remaining Perriera the defending champ dropped in a set wave, did a high flying floater across the top of the wave free falling to the bottom and directly into a slashing tailslide reverse posting a 7.0 and then immeadiately backed it up with a 6.43 to leave Burke needing a 7.30, Gomez a 7.60 and Philips an 8.33 for the win with 2 mins to go,with mother nature not co operating Perriera took the win, Burke 2nd, Gomez 3rd and Philips 4th.
