Josh Burke wins Open Mens and Juniors at the ECSC in Virginia Beach
Teen, Bajan surfer, Josh Burke has topped the podium with victories in both the Open Men’s and Junior divisions at the 50th Coastal Edge/ECSC (East Coast Surfing Championships) in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Sunday (August 26). These two titles will go alongside his 2nd place trophy which he earned in the ECSC/TAUTOGS MEN’S Pro on Tuesday, August 21.
With 916 competitors, ECSC is the biggest surf contest on the East Coast of the US and as the only surfer to make it into 3 finals (hitting the podium 3 out of 3), Josh is one of the most successful surfers who competed. The young shredder who is backed by Billabong, Epi-Dry, Lime, Reef, X-Trak, Nixon, Futures, VZ and Burkie Boards told Adrenaline Sun about his trip.
“I had an amazing 2 weeks,” Burke said. “First, I went to Nicaragua for a week where I surfed with the best Junior Surfers in America, then coming to Virginia Beach and making three finals, with a 2nd in one and winning the other two, is just an unreal feeling. I would like to thank my Uncle Neil for making my trip to VA possible and all my sponsors.”
Josh will be coming back to Barbados tomorrow (Wednesday, August 28), but he’ll be off again to compete in the Belmar ASP FINS Junior and the Belmar WAPSS Mens Pro in Belmar, New Jersey from September 12th-16th, then it’s off to Indonesia from September 17th-30th.
