Karters enjoy wet conditions over the weekend at Bushy Park, Barbados
Not even the rain could stop Round Two of the Barbados Karting Association’s 2012 Frutee season from having a spectacular day of thrills and spills.
Competing on the Bushy Park track the rain came early in the day’s proceedings but from all reports the karters just loved driving on the slippery track. Sliding through the bends, skilful nose to tail driving and a number of spin outs were the order of the day.
Zane Maloney was the winner of the 270 class.
Zane Maloney and Joshua Parris had an enthralling battle on the circuit which was run in a clockwise direction. In the final class race of the wet day, Parris was in the right place to take advantage of a spin by Maloney on the entry to the karting Esses.
But the young Maloney did not give up and went on the hunt to haul in Parris. After catching him, passing him was another challenge. Hardly, any daylight separated these two karters and the cheers from the pit were loud and clear for both drivers. After doing very well to withstand the pressure, Parris had a mistake on the entry to the karting link and slid wide. This allowed Maloney slip on the inside and take the lead. But the race was not over as Parris was not willing to give up so easily and it was his turn to apply the pressure from behind.
He even came alongside Maloney and the two were side by side at one stage on the final lap. However, Maloney managed to hold him off to the checkered flag to win. That victory gave Zane Maloney the top honours on the day in the 270 Sportsman Class with three wins and one second place to amass 96 points.
Parris was second with 82 points after winning the third race of the day, placing second in the last race and third in the first two races on the wet. After finishing second in the opening two races, Joshua Maloney had to settle for third place after not finishing race three due to a bend steer link. He had 60 points, while Krystal Kirton finished in fourth place after only completing two races and not starting in the final race. In the 310 Premier Class, Current points leader in the 2012 Frutee driver’s championship, Tremaine Forde-Catwell,  bounced back after finishing second in the first race, to stamp his authority on the other three races.

With the rain starting to fall as they lined up on the grid, Forde-Catwell said he did not have enough time to change the tyres. However he led for about half the race but was quickly being caught by Christian Hinds who qualified on pole and was enjoying the wet conditions in the first race. But as Hind caught and passed Forde-Catwell he spun and relinquished the lead once again to Forde-Catwell. This was short lived as Hinds recovered well to once again take the lead and go on for victory.
The other three races left no doubt who was the dominant one in the group, Forde-Catwell with renewed vigour and wet tyres worked his way through the crowd and to the front where he never looked back and pulled away. He carried on in the same manner of the next two races and carried off 96 points and the Class victory on the day. Second was Hinds with 88 points from one victory and three second place finishes. Nicholas Gill who did not finish the third race after hitting one of the barriers and losing steering was third with 52 points, while Javani Smith was fourth with 36 points.
