Promoters optimistic about the changes at the 2012 Tobago Carnival Regatta
2012 Tobago Carnival Regattaâs promoters are very Optimistic about the changes in the line.
This year the Optimists are stepping up their game hosting over 49 kids including Vesigny, Point Fortin, San Fernando, as well as the 30 kids from Tobago Police Community Group and 8 young Optimists sailors who will have an opportunity to become young Optimists coaches at total of 88 young sailors.
The Vesigny Vikings, run by Betty Suite, have taken the challenge given to her by Tobago Regattas Event Manger Niki Borde, to raise the bar and out do last years performance.
âFor any sport to thrive, it must encourage the youngest of us to enjoy it. Thatâs why we at Tobago Regattas Ltd. have decided to make a few changes this year. We have invited the Tobago Police Community Group to join us. We will be conducting a âWater safety and introduction to sailing campâ for these young men and women, teaching them the basic rules to rigging boats, tying knots, having fun safely at sea and generally showing them that sailing can be fun. Its our goal to encourage the youth to get back into the water and to develop qualified sailors who can make a living at the sport, in Sport Tourism in Tobago, which we see as a viable career.â
âWe have also added a â Introduction to coachingâ segment into the Optimists line up as well, where we would teach young men and women who have already qualified as Optimists sailors to become coaches, allowing these young people to develop a new talent that will augur well for the future of sailing on the sister isle.
The Tobago Carnival Regatta has always been a fantastic experience and eye opener to the young sailors who see that there is a world of opportunity in sport.
As 2012 gets ready to launch , we invite all interested young people to join us for a fantastic weekend of sailing. The 2012 Tobago Carnival Regatta event kicks off at 9am Thursday 23rd at Pigeon Point Heritage Park, Tobago.
