REEF signs Bajan Junior Surfer Josh Burke to the team
Barbados U-16 & U-18 2010/2011 National Champion, Josh Burke has officially signed with Global footwear giant REEF. The 15 year old St. Winifred’s school student has been on a tear over the past two years making a mark on the international
surfing scene finishing 10th overall (the youngest surfer in the top 70) on the 2011 WAPSS MENS pro tour, winning double divisions at the highly competitive NSSA North East Central region event, represented Barbados at the Dakine ISA World Junior Surfing Championships and although a disappointing overall result he displayed his amazing talent to the delight of ISA organizers, commentators, other Team managers and as well as 3 time World Champion, Tom Curren!
“We at REEF are happy to have Josh join our elite group of Athletes and look forward to being a part of his bright future.” said Global Athlete Manager of Reef, Shea Perkins.
Besides being featured in a number of international surfing magazines recently, Burke also became the first Barbadian to be listed in the prestigious SURFER Magazine Top 100 Groms in the world “HOT 100 Issue” last month, he was listed at #19! Congratulations Josh, from everyone at Adrenaline Sun!
The REEF story started 25 years ago when two brothers from Argentina, Fernando and Santiago Aguerre acted on an idea to produce high quality, comfortable yet stylish sandals. Inspired by their love of the California lifestyle and surfing culture, the brothers moved to California in the early 80′s and founded Reef sandals. With a tiny amount of start up capital of $4000 and after lots of hard work Reef is now widely considered to be the number one sandal brand in the world.
