Meet The Twin of Paintball Barbados
No, you are not seeing double, you’re probably just a little shaken from being blasted in the face mask by Zach and Adam Evelyn, ”The Paintball Twin”. Hailing from a family of paintball players, these 11-year old marksmen enjoy family outtings with the parents and grandparents playing friendly games of Woodsball. But what do you expect from Sniper Granny’s grand kids.
Adrenaline Sun got geared up and went to the Barbados Rifle Association’s (BRA) Paragon Military Base, (Christ Church, Barbados) to check up on these two pint-sized paintball junkies.
When did you two discover that paintball was so exciting?
Zach: A friend of ours had a paintball party and we were hooked from then.
How did you learn how to use a marker?
Adam: We learnt how to use a Marker at the first paintball briefing we had with Nick Gittens (of Paintball Barbados) at paintball camp at the Barbados Rifle Association. He taught us everything from shooting a marker to disassembling and reassembling it.
Do you play first person shooters (video games) how does paintball compare to that?
Z: Yes I do, but that can’t compare to playing paintball at BRA.
A: Yes I do play first person shooter games, but paintballing is far better.
Do you have a twin sixth-sense where you can tell if your brother is in danger during a paintball match?
Z: No I do not.
A: No I don’t either.
Have you ever played against each other one on one?
Both: Yes.
Ok be honest… who has the better aim?
A: I have the better aim.
Z: While, Adam has the better aim, however I am the better advancer so I would call him ‘the sharp shooter’ and I would call myself ‘the running gunner’.
Do you like to work together or compete against each other?
Z: Yes, I like to work together, I think we make a good team.
A: I definitely like to work on the same team as Zach.
Can you guys tell me a little about your markers?
Z: We both use identical markers. 2011 A-5 Marker with an E-grip, complete cyclone upgrade package, which includes Q.E.P.H (quick exhaust piston housing), Lightning Rod, Vortex Mod SS and Squishy Paddles. Aluminum Power Tube and Bolt upgrade, Collapsible Stock, 14” Battle Stixx Barrel and Remote.
A: The next upgrades we plan to get are to the Flat line Barrel and a Virtue redefined board.
Have you ever played against your dad or grandma?
Z: Yes , both. I have only played against my Dad once , and that was a hunt scenario, I ambushed my Dad and I hit him at least five times but the balls didn’t pop and I shot out a full hopper of balls trying to hit him and when I ran out of balls I was upset and I stuck my head up and about twenty of his balls hit me in my mask so I could not see. The times that I played against my grandmother I hit her once but she picked me out about three times because her nickname is true ‘SNIPER GRANNY’.
A: When we have played at Precinct 13, doing a hunt scenario, I always ambush my Dad in the jungle and I would shoot him twice and the balls wouldn’t pop, he would then make use of that chance and paint me, and my Granny (Sniper Granny) has picked me out a fair amount of times.
What team are you guys on?
Z: We have not formed a team yet.
A: But we have a group that we play with that consists of about 22 people.
How often do you two play?
A: We try to get a game every month.
Z: Yeah, just about once a month.
What is your style of play? Do you prefer to run and gun or sit and wait patiently?
Z: I prefer to run and gun.
A: Me too.
We heard that you two are Jr Paintball Certified… can you say what that means exactly?
A: We are both C1 certified, which is the first level of referring in paintball.
Z: What that means is that we can referee on any paintball field anywhere in the world.
Any last words?
Z: I can’t wait to get in another game.
A: I want to tell my Dad to watch out for me.
