Top Caribbean surfer Chelsea Tuach does well in ASP 6 Star Paul Mitchel Super Girl Pro in California
2012 Caribbean Open Women’s Surfing Champion and 11th best Female Junior Surfer in the world, Chelsea Tuach, ended an outstanding 13th overall at the just concluded ASP 6 Star Paul Mitchell SuperGirl Pro held in Oceanside, California.
This was Chelsea’s first ASP event and she pitted her skills against 81 of the best professional female surfers in the world. She made it through four (4) rounds of competition with her powerful backhand surfing and narrowly missed making it through to the Round of 12 as she was in advancing position up to the dying minutes of the heat matching the Australian, Phillipa Anderson, wave for wave.
In the end, Anderson advanced with a 10.14 to Chelsea’s 9.50. Chelsea was the only surfer from Round one to make it so far in the competition. The ASP announcer was so impressed with her performance that he called this event “Chelsea Tuach’s coming out party!”. “I am really happy to have made it all the way to Round 5, ending 13th overall. All the girls are amazing surfers and it feels really good to have got this far. Thanks to God, my coach, Mike Lamm, my shaper Bill Johnson, my family and my sponsors for supporting me and helping me to achieve this outstanding result in my first ASP event.” Tuach said after the event.
Chelsea now heads to Panama where she has been invited by Red Bull to do a documentary with 2011 World Champion, Carissa Moore, surfing with local surfers of the Guna Yala Indian Reserve. Chelsea is really excited to have been selected by Red Bull to be part of this amazing project..
