Under 10 Bajan Surfer Zander Venezia takes the podium in Costa Rica
10 year old surfing sensation from Barbados, Zander Venezia continues his winning ways. This time on the International surfing scene.
The reigning Under 10 Barbados National Champion recently traveled to Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica where he took part in the 2012 Hermoso Pro. Surfing in the 14 and Under division the young Hurley, Dragon, Dakine, Lazy Days sponsored team rider showed that despite his young age he is a force to be reckoned with by taking first place and the trophy back to Barbados. Although this is his first overseas victory, young Venezia is no stranger to the podium, consistently making all but one final in his division for the past three years and has now become the youngest Barbadian surfer to win an overseas event.
While in Costa Rica, Venezia also attended Jim Hogan’s Surf Camp. The camp is conducted by former professional surfer and world glass coach Jim Hogan. The seven day camp is designed to improve performance through better technique with one one coaching. ‘Zander is like a little sponge, quickly soaking up any information I offered. He performed well today.” Hogan said.
Asher Nolan, Hurley’s East coast sports marketing and team manager also commented on Venezia’s victory, “Wow, thats amazing!! I see a bright future for Zander, Good Stuff!”
Zander also plans on traveling in mid August to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where he will compete in the Rip Curl Grom Search and then off to Virginia Beach, Virginia to surf the 50th anniversary East Coast Surfing Championships.
